There used to be two Cub Packs at 5th Farnborough, Cranes and Herons. Unfortunately, Herons closed in the ‘90s, but Cranes are still very much alive and kicking! In fact we are currently one of the biggest packs in Blackwater Valley Scout District.
The Cub age range is from 8 to about 10½ - we allow some variation, so they can finish an important piece of Award work, or go up to Scouts with a friend.
Cranes meet at the Group HQ, on Tuesdays during school term time. However, we try to “Put the OUT in Scouting” whenever possible, so we may be found elsewhere sometimes - especially in the summer. We always publish the programme for the term, at the beginning of term, so you’ll know where we are and what we’re up to!
We run a very varied programme of activities, covering all aspects of Cub award and badge work, so that any Cub starting at age 8 should be able to attain his or her Chief Scout Silver Award (the top award for Cubs) before moving up to Scouts.
We also attempt to support all District events, which range from chess and quiz competitions to sports, swimming and football tournaments, plus events which concentrate on traditional Scouting skills.
Cranes always have their own summer camp, typically 5 days in late July / early August. Sometimes there are additional, week-end camps, with our Group, or with the District or (usually for the older Cubs) at Hampshire County level.
I hope this gives you an idea of what we are about, but please feel free to contact us if you want more information about 5th Farnborough Cranes Cub Pack.
